BYC Temporarily Closed

Dear BYCers,
As of 5pm tonight, Friday 20th March 2020 the government have asked all nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres have also been asked to close.
This includes BYC.

Therefore tonights 6:15pm will be our last class until the government say we can open our doors again.

We will get through this together and come out stronger on the other side.

All memberships will be put on hold until we can reopen.

Message from us earlier in the day on Friday 20th March:

Dear BYCers,

This is not an easy email to write and has been formulated after much thought and consideration for our BYC community. In light of the current circumstances, I have had to make the executive decision to close BYC with immediate effect.

 
We are moving into unprecedented times. We wanted to stay open, to keep our community and support you during these times. We know now, more than ever, we all need our yoga practice and community. However, we have a duty of care to our staff and customers and feel it would be irresponsible to stay open at this juncture.
 
If you are a member with us and have the financial means to maintain your membership without a freeze, please know that your generosity and support is deeply appreciated at this time. If you do need to freeze your account for these two weeks, we’re happy to assist you, just send an email to studio@bychotyoga.co.uk. Please note that it may take us a little while to get back to you as we have been inundated with emails already regarding memberships. For those of you on the Intro Offer, Monthly Unlimited, those with class cards or Annual memberships, rest assured that we will extend your expiration dates accordingly, so no need to email.
 
Please note all BYC class cards are non refundable and we will not be issuing any refunds at this juncture. We ask that you understand our position as a small, independent business who want to still be here for all of you during and after this pandemic.
 
We are so lucky to have this wonderful community. We thank you all for your support at this difficult time. We will be in contact as soon as we have more information as to when we will be re-opening. We will be montiering the situaton closely and will open as soon as the situation allows.
 
We’re in this together. We take heart in our fabulous community of BYCers. We believe this pandemic will test us but ultimately show us our strengths as a community. It is human nature to fight, we are resilient and will come out stronger and united against this threat. The greatness of people is that we always find a way to keep hope alive and create joy out of darkness. Our creativity and humanity have always managed to flourish even through the worst of times. By making this decision I hope I can to protect you, my staff and ultimately BYC, so that we can survive another 17 years! This is hopefully just a little bump in what has been a rewarding 17 year journey so far! BYC has weathered many a storm and this is hopefully a little shower!
 
This is also a gentle reminder to take care of yourself as well as your loved ones.
 
Remember before you can help anyone else you must look after yourself. Please tend to your physical and mental health. Breathe. Stay present. Use your wisdom. Stay moving.

Boost Your Immune System

Stay fit stay healthy

 
 
According to Harvard Medical School, regular exercise, like yoga, can help boost your immune system, along with:
  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get adequate sleep.
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly.
  • Try to minimize stress.

We can also boost our immune system via our gut!

“We live in a symbiotic relationship with our gut bacteria,” says Prof Arne Akbar, the president of the British Society for Immunology and a professor at University College, London. “Having the right ones around, that we evolved with, is best for our health. Anything we do that alters that can be detrimental.” To feed your gut flora, Cruickshank recommends “eating a more varied diet with lots of high-fibre foods. The microbiome really likes fibre, pulses and fermented foods,” – While taking pribotices can also help with this, Prof Akbar says the best way to do it is via your diet.

Akbar also reiterates the point that we need to say active and keep exercising! To be immunologically fit, you need to be physically fit. “White blood cells can be quite sedentary, exercise mobilises them by increasing your blood flow, so they can do their surveillance jobs and seek and destroy in other parts of the body.”

It is also integral to try to stay calm during this pandemic.

Stress has been found to be very detrimental on the immune system. The stress hormone corticosteroid can actually suppress the effectiveness of the immune system by lowers the number of lymphocytes.

Therefor come to yoga, destress; which in turn will help you sleep better, yet another factor in boosting the immune system.

Lets get through this together.

p.s. did you know laughter is a proven immune system booster as well…!!! Any BYCers knows BYC is always full of laughter! So come to BYC to yoga, laugh, unwind, together!

Please be mindful of your fellow Yogis and if you are not feeling well, or have any of the Coronavirus symptoms please do not come to class. 

Minors Policy:

PLEASE BE ADVISED BYC is for 14yrs+

14-15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (over 18 years old) each time they practise. We offer an £8 Drop In rate for under 14-15 year olds.

16 and 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult (over 18 years of age) on their first visit. After their first accompanied visit, they are then able to come to class on their own.

In both cases adult (18+) will need to countersign their completed registration form.

Latecomers Policy at BYC hot yoga:

New Students

If it is your first time practising at BYC, you need to be in the yoga room from the very beginning of class. This is to ensure that the teacher knows you are new and if you are working with any illness or injuries, so they can take good care of you.

Regular Students

Hot Yoga: Latecomers, who have practised at BYC, will be permitted into class ONLY before the end of the first breathing exercise, at the discretion of Managers and Reception staff.

All other classes: Students are required to be in the room for the start of the class. This is for their own safety and to cause least disruption to the class.

BYC Refund Policy:

All BYC Class Cards are non refundable, non freezable & non transferable.

We will of course hold class cards for pregnancy and/or medical reasons. For medical/injury class card hold we  require a doctor, physio, chiropractors (or whoever you are seeing in regards to the issue) note, attaining to the issue and that it has been keeping you from your yoga, emailed to us at studio@bychotyoga.co.uk.
