About:

Every 3 months to mark the solstices and the equinox of the year, Daniel does 108 suryanamaskar/sun salutations. Practicing this can release and stimulate a lot of subtle energy and at some points can become to a degree meditative. This equinox Daniel is inviting anyone who would like to participate in the 108 Sun Salutations and share in this practise to join at BYC.

There are only 30 spaces so if you book and are unavailable to attend please cancel yourself out

Daniel will start with a brief explanation and warm up before the 108. This should all take between 75/90mins

Who can attend this class?:

  • You must be a member of BYC.
  • Over 16 years old
  • This is not advised for anyone working with injuries, specifically wrist, shoulder, neck or back as the repetitive nature of 108 sun salutations with no rest could exacerbate

More Info:

During Equinox, the day and night are equal in length. The Spring Equinox is definitely a time to celebrate as it marks the begging of Spring!!! From this day forward the days are longer then the nights!

The internal heat that you build during Surya Namaskar is one of cleansing, detoxifying, grounding and also works to help you tune with yourself.

Surya Namaskar heats the physical body and activates Prana (life force). The intense activity assists in the creation (and movement of) energy.

Why 108?

108 is a sacred and significant number to many.

Astronomy: the distance between the Sun and Earth is approximately 108 times the diameter of the Sun

Numerology: 108 equals 9, symbolizing eternity, love, and awakening

Ayurveda:According to Ayurveda, we have 108 marma points (vital points of life forces) in our body

Meditation: 108 beads of the Mala: Used to feel and count during meditation.

There are said to be 108 styles of meditation

Furthermore, an average person is said to breathe 21,600 times in a 24-hour period. Half, 10,800, are solar energy (breaths during day), and the other half is lunar energy (breaths during night). 100 multiplied with 108 equals 10,800

Additionally, 108 is associated with the River Ganga and Stonehenge. River Ganga spans a longitude of 12 degrees (79 to 91) and latitude of 9 degrees (22 to 31). 12 multiplied by 9 equals 108. Stonehenge’s diameter has been measured to be 108 feet in diameter.
