Kapalbhati in Vajrasana

Blowing in Firm Pose

1 – Kneel on your mat facing the mirror. If sitting in this position is too uncomfortable or painful on the knees you can sit cross legged.

2 –  If you are kneeling, place your palms down on your thighs, elbows straight. If you are sitting cross-legged, rest your arms on your legs, elbows straight, palms up.

3 – Relax your stomach, really let is go. Think Buddha belly not wash board abs.

4 – Inhale and as you exhale contract your stomach muscles, imagine you are blowing out a candle on a birthday cake. Your jaw and lips are relaxed. Only your stomach should be moving.

5 – Relax your stomach muscles and the inhale will happen automatically.

6 – Inhale, exhale, stomach contracting and relaxing. Try to move with the teachers beat. During the second, faster set this can be more challenging. If you need to, you can move with every other beat.

7 – Your done! Lie back and relax in Savasanah. Do not miss this Savasanah out. This Savasanah is intergral to the series, so take it, even if it is just for a minute. Lie back, relax and let you body start to reep the rewards of the last 90 minutes. By taking a savasanah you are letting your body know you are finished and that it is time to stop sweating. Don’t do yourself, and the hard work you have just done, a disservice by jumping straight up! At BYC you can savasanah from 1-10 minutes in the studio after class.
